A Word From Heard
God is good!
I am privileged to be working with two great commissions and there are
many—but my responsibilities particularly parallel these two: Pastoral Care and Family
Ministries.
Each commission functions as a kind of legislative body. They vote—usually by
consensus—on policy issues affecting their realm of responsibility. They also write
guidelines, supervise, recommend, and mentor. They ask a lot of questions and they give
their opinions. These two commissions are innovative and they must often think outside
the box…we have brainstormed and anything can be on the table. They must be discreet
and they must respect confidentiality.
Pastoral Care is divided into two subcommittees with Rani Fisher chairing Subcom A and
Lamar Van Gunten chairing Subcom B. Lamar’s committee is considering many topics
such as hospital visits, pre-funeral planning, post-hospital visits, etc. Rani is chairing the
subcommittee that includes the parish nurse program. They will write a plan and review
past history and Trinity interest in this area. They will propose a job evaluation and
position description and address the legal and insurance issues. Finally, the proposal will
be presented to the vestry for consideration and/approval.
Family Ministries is considering the education program for next year. They are
reviewing issues surrounding the 9:10 service and what can be done to enhance that
worship experience. Soon bulletin boards, brochures and other visuals will explain what
is available for families and what is contemplated for Holy Trinity. Many exciting ideas
are in the wings and will be discussed and some announced during the coming weeks.
We really need help in cleaning and organizing the various Family Ministries’ closets. If
several people would be willing and able to help, “Grandma” Virginia Debs would be
available for childcare. Please e-mail me at heardtrinitymenlopark@yahoo.com or call
me at (650) 321-8320, Ex 17 and I will make the arrangements.
Soon, we will be announcing a grandparents, aunts, uncles, Godparents program for
young families and children at Trinity.
Holy Trinity is a going and growing concern. We are on the move and exciting days,
weeks, and announcements are ahead of us. Stay tuned…as we address family issues in
the 21st century.
