Interim Rector's Reflections

Dear Friends,

We are three weeks into the Easter Season, but the memories of our beautiful services of Holy Week and Easter are still fresh. I want to thank all the people who worked so hard to make them the rich experiences they were: staff, musicians, altar guild, flower guild, people who offered meditations and art, vestry, and an army of volunteers
who love this faith community. We are people who rejoice in the resurrection and the presence of the Living Christ, and that is most clear during this holy season. Thank you for the many hours you have dedicated to Trinity Parish.

We move ahead in our journey. We have some serious work to do around stewardship. Our new working definition of stewardship is “everything you do with everything you have.” It has to do with how we use our time, how and where we make commitments, what our priorities are, and how well we stick to those priorities. This isn’t just an organizational effort—we need more people to help; it is a spiritual issue. We have just proclaimed “Jesus is Lord!” How well do our lives reflect that? We talk about time, talent and treasure, because the Ts are so easy to remember.

In reality these aspects of our lives are woven into each other. Here’s an exercise for you: Look at your calendar. Look at all the appointments and meetings. Where does time for God fit in—time for prayer, study, service, worship, and sharing your faith with your children. How can we help each other develop lives rich in meaning?

Do the same with your checking account and your credit card receipts. Do you see a pattern of giving and sharing?
And then do the same with how you use and share your talents and skills. You may have thought that they aren’t applicable to church life or faith, but God gave us our talents and skills for the use of the world. How do we honor the giver of these gifts?

Opportunities abound! Come to the Parish Work Day on May 6. Join a vestry commission—stewardship, membership, buildings and grounds—join the altar guild! You will meet wonderful people; you will find a new way of belonging to Trinity Parish, and you will make a difference to this community.
