Interim Rector's Reflections

Dear Friends,

Lent is upon us. Traditionally Lent is a time of study, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, which are all ways that we can come closer to God. The title of our Lenten program is “Getting Back to God: Space for Grace.”
Lent is often described as a journey. That means at the end of Lent we should expect to find ourselves somewhere different from where we started. My hope is that our journeys this Lent will lead us to reconciliation and homecoming. Our journeys will be different as we individually look at the landscape of our lives, and yet because we share in this special community at Holy Trinity, we will travel some of this journey together. And we want to create space and grace for the journey.

We begin Lent with the Ash Wednesday services in which we are assured of God’s steadfast love and great mercy. Such grace is wonderful beginning for a journey of faith because we are assured of God’s attitude toward us even before we begin. To help us along the way we are offering several opportunities: Tuesday nights we will offer a moving meditation in the chapel, led by Mimi Latno and others. Wednesday evenings we will offer Holy Eucharist, a soup supper and a program that is both instructional and experiential. On Sunday, March 12 we will have an instructed Eucharist at each service, so that we may journey into the mystery of Holy Communion in a deeper way. On Sunday, April 2 we will focus on reconciliation at each service. I will write more about Holy Week next month.

Part of our journey this Lent is to begin our search for the new rector. I hope you will participate in the “Telling our Story” potluck event on Sunday, March 5 and the Town Hall Meeting on March 12. These are times to come together and talk about where we have been on our journey together, where we are now, and where we feel God is calling us.

Come, join us in our journey in faith. There are no prerequisites—just God’s invitation.
“If you think you can’t come home again because the might-haves, the should-haves and the too-lates have taken hold, then think again! God welcomes you with open arms. Welcome home!” (Anne Peterson)

May you have a Holy Lent. Anne+
