About Our Search Process
We are seeking a new rector amidst some extraordinary circumstances. It was only
three years ago that we began our last search for a rector. We called the Rev. Michael Spillane, who came to Trinity
in March 2007. Sadly, within a few months of his arrival, our rector was diagnosed
with brain cancer and died less than a year later in April 2008. Within the short
time that he was with us, Fr. Mike became a beloved member of our community and
began to make needed changes in worship and programs that have yet to be fully
realized. Much has happened in our own life as a community and in the diocese, our
neighborhoods, our nation and the world. A new rector will help us understand what
that means for us as we seek to be God’s people today.
Our search process mirrors the approach taken by most parishes conducting a rector
search. The Vestry appointed a nine-member new Rector Search Committee which
functions as the lens of the parish, recording where we are currently and where we see
God calling us to be. As a group, we’ve listened, compiled, distilled, filtered, reflected,
and prayed – and then listened, reflected, and prayed some more.
An important part of our search process has been to build a shared understanding of
both our rich history and future aspirations. We conducted a series of focus-group
and Town-Hall meetings to gain a clearer understanding of how parishioners view
Trinity, what challenges they see, what vision they have for Trinity in the next five
years and the qualities they value in a rector. These meetings included the former wardens, staff and Youth Group.
The committee has distilled this understanding into a new Parish Profile, available for download on these pages. This document describes our parish, our aspirations, and the rector we are seeking. With the release of this document in January '09 the application process is underway. Instructions for submitting an application are also available on these pages.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, February 12th. We will conduct telephone interviews with selected candates, visit a sub-set of that group in March and April and invite a small number of finalists to visit Trinity and interview with our Vestry in May. Our goal is to call our next rector in late May, 2009.
