Education and Christian Formation

Foundations

This course, new for 2006, meets every Sunday at 10 am, immediately after the Family Service. Designed for those who are new to the Episcopal Church, or those who just want to brush-up on the basics, it provides a broad-ranging survey of the history and principles of the Episcopal Church and the key concepts, and questions, of the Christian faith.

Each class will meet for 45 minutes, concurrent with our Sunday School classes, so parents are able to place their children in Sunday School or the nursery and attend the class. Afterwards families are welcome to join the 10am service for Holy Eucharist.

Class Structure:

The structure in the class models the Anglican approach to religious study, mixing scripture, readings from the history of the church and open discussion among the participants. All are welcome, you need only bring your life experience, an open mind, and a genuine desire to know more and develop in the faith.

5 Minutes: Prayer and Scripture Reading

15 Minutes: Lecture and extracts from historical texts led by class leader.

10 Minutes: Discussion within the group

5 Minutes: Additional extracts and readings

4 Minutes: Additional Discussion

1 Minute: Closing Prayer

Each week's class is a stand-alone discussion of a particular subject. You may drop into the course or miss weeks as your schedule requires, but those who can make a serious committment to the program will benefit the most.
