Boy Scout Troop 206
Trinity Parish has been supporting local Boy Scout units since the 1920s and has had a close relationship with Troop 206 since the 1950s. Annual Troop Pancake Breakfasts have been held in the Parish Hall since the 1960s. In 1998, the charter for the Troop formally came back to Trinity and many special events are held on the Parish campus. Weekly Troop meetings take place at Sacred Heart School on Valparaiso.
Holding the Troop charter means more than just being a sponsor; it means that Trinity owns the Troop's property and is responsible for the Troop's development. The Rector is the head of the Troop organization and appoints a Charter Representative to coordinate between the two organizations on a day-to-day basis.
Currently there are about 30 registered boys in the Troop and they come largely from Menlo Park, Redwood City, and Atherton with a scattering from Portola Valley, Woodside, and San Carlos. The Troop has an active outdoor program with camping trips in every month of the year and annual High Sierra summer treks and high adventure outings such as whitewater canoeing.
In addition, like most Boy Scout troops, 206 has a strong commitment to community service. Annually, the boys provide between 50 and 100 hours of service to Trinity, and an equal amount to the community at large.
Troop 206 has a strong Eagle tradition with over one hundred fifty boys having achieved Scouting's highest award. Nationally, less than 1% of Scouts go on to earn the Eagle badge.
For further information about Trinity's Troop 206, see the Troop's website for up-to-date information and contacts.
Troop 206 celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005 with a party in the Trinity Parish courtyard.
