This Coming Sunday:
All children begin their worship in church with the congregation at 10 a.m. and then are lead to Trinity Hall following the first lesson. In Trinity Hall, a children's liturgy will be offered and then children are taken to their Godly Play (K- 3rd grades) and Explorers (4th & 5th grades) classes. The children will all come together at 11:15 a.m. to be lead in song in Trinity Hall. Children who participate in our Sunday morning programs must be picked up by their families in Trinity Hall by 11:30 a.m.
This Sunday our children in Godly Play will be learning about the Good Shepherd and World Communion. The Good Shepherd and World Communion is a story that helps us mesh Biblical scripture and our weekly worship together (our Liturgy). As we revisit the Parable of the Good Shepherd and weave it together with all the people around the world who share in the Eucharist at communion tables everywhere, there is a connectedness that goes way beyond our own congregation! I wonder if you have ever come close to this table? I wonder if you have ever heard the words of the Good Shepherd spoken just for you?
Our Explorers will read John 20:19-31, Doubting Thomas. There are many things you know are true, but you cannot explain how they work. Ask your children to offer some things they know are true, but cannot explain.
Godly Play Helpers Needed
We are in need of a few people to assist our Godly Play teachers as door people on both April 23 and May 7. The Godly Play classes are during the 10 a.m. service. As a door person you would greet the children at the door and assist the teachers with the work time and feast. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Godly Play and spend time with our children.
April 30 - Godly Play for Parents Workshop
During our 10 a.m. service, parents of children in our Godly Play program are invited to our Godly Play room to experience a full Godly Play session: building the circle, hearing the lesson responding with art or play, sharing a feast and saying goodbye. Parents need not - and should not - roleplay the parts of children during this time. This is a parents' chance to experience as adults exactly what happens during a Godly Play session. There will be time after the session to answer parents’ questions about the experience they have shared. Both parents should try to attend. The session will run at the same time as the children’s session in the Good Shepherd Godly Play room.
May 7 - Nursery Playdate
Families of our nursery children are invited to play together in the Meadow Room at 9 a.m. on May 7. This will be a fun opportunity for our youngest children to get to know our childcare workers, Milagros, Pilar and Alexandra, as well as get to know other families with young children. Parents and children are invited to drop in and play together anytime from 9 - 10 a.m.
May 9 - Explorers at Dinner at New Creation Home Ministries
Our Explorers will plan, cook and join in a meal for the mothers and children of New Creation Home Ministries on May 9. Families are invited to meet at the East Palo Alto home at 3:30 p.m. to prepare the meal and serve the mothers and children. Dinner is from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and there is a parenting class from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. that will be led by two of our Explorers parents. Explorers and other adults will watch the children while the mothers have their class.
May 14 - Explorers at 10 a.m. Service
Our Explorers will be participating in a variety of ways in the 10 a.m. service. They will serve as oblaters, readers, crucifiers, ushers and more!
May 21 - Children's Programs End of Year Celebration
After the 10 a.m. service, children and families in our Godly Play and Explorers rooms are invited to celebrate the end of the church school year! This will be the last day of Godly Play and Explorers until the Fall.
June 4 - Pentacost Celebration
All children ages 4 - 10 are invited to celebrate Pentacost with a special program led by Elise Jones during the 10 a.m. service. As we celebrate the Holy Spirit’s descent upon the disciples and the gift of speaking in different tongues and being able to understand one another, we celebrate the diversity that God has given us. We celebrate all of the various ways in which God has gifted us with different skills, language, visions, and dreams. We are all made in God’s image AND we all bring varied gifts to the community.
June 11 - Trinity Sunday Celebration
All children ages 4 - 10 are invited to celebrate Trinity Sunday with a special program led by Elise Jones during the 10 a.m. service. Trinity Sunday celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, the three Persons of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
June 18 - July 2 - Home and Hope
Each summer, Trinity Church spends two weeks hosting a Home and Hope shelter. The congregation provides volunteers to support this event and the mission of Home and Hope: to provide a safe haven for homeless families while helping them to regain long-term self sufficiency and raise community consciousness on the issue of homelessness by actively engaging volunteers. Our families will have special opportunities to interact with the families staying at Trinity. More information will be coming soon and sign-ups for volunteers will begin in May. July 9 - 30 - Summer Sunday School
Every Sunday in July (except July 2) during our 10 a.m. service, children ages 4 - 10 years old will learn about what makes the church go around. They will be hearing from different people who serve in our church in a variety of capacities, like our rector, our vestry, acolytes, the Flower and Altar Guilds.
