January 5 - February 16 - Christ In Crisis Book Study
In his latest book, Christ in Crisis: Why We Need to Reclaim Jesus, theologian, and activist Jim Wallis argues that our cultural and political crisis largely stems from how the American church has become disconnected from the teachings of Jesus. Building on the popular and controversial Reclaiming Jesus declaration he and other leaders wrote in May 2018 to address America’s moral crisis—to which 5 million people responded—Wallis argues that Christians have become disconnected from Jesus and need to revisit their spiritual foundations. Wallis spoke at Trinity in November and we're building on this well-attended event to read and study his new book. We'll meet weekly from January 5th to February 18th for 5 sessions to explore what we can learn and apply in this important and timely book. Weekly meetings will be Sundays from 11:30-12:30 or Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00 pm.
January 26 - Annual Parish Meeting
Trinity Community please join us on Sunday, January 26, for our Annual Parish Meeting which will be held following the 10:00 am service over lunch in Trinity Hall. The Annual Meeting is a time to review a bit about the last year, including a sharing of the 2019 financial results. We will also take the opportunity to look forward to some highlights coming up in 2020, including the 2020 budget. Above all, it is a time to give thanks to God for the life we share together as a part of this amazing Trinity community. We will have extended childcare as well as children's activities in Angus Hall, and the meeting will end no later than 1 pm.
February 2 - Guest Preacher & Speaker Cara Meredith
Author, Cara Meredith will be our Guest Preacher at the 10 am service, and will also be giving a talk in Trinity Hall during coffee hour afterwards. Cara Meredith is the author of the book The Color of Life: A Journey Toward Love and Racial Justice. Cara Meredith grew up in a colorless world. From childhood, she didn't think issues of race had anything to do with her. A colorblind rhetoric had been stamped across her education, world view, and Christian theology. Then as an adult, Cara's life took on new, colorful hues. She realized that her generation, seeking to move beyond ancestral racism, had swung so far that they tried to act as if they didn't see race at all. But that picture neglected the unique cultural identity God gives each person. A writer and speaker in an interracial marriage and mixed-race family, Cara finds herself more and more in the middle of discussions about racial justice. In The Color of Life, she asks how do we navigate ongoing and desperately-needed conversations about race? How do we teach our children a theology of reconciliation and love? And what does it mean to live a life that makes space for seeing the imago Dei in everyone? Cara's illuminating memoir paints a beautiful path from white privilege toward racial healing, from ignorance toward seeing the image of God in everyone she meets. I hope you will join us to give Cara a warm Trinity welcome.
