The Saints Banners at Trinity Parish
During the long season of Pentecost, or Ordinary Time, We display in the nave of the church handmade banners honoring sixteen saintly Christians whose lives and works are an inspiration to us in our personal ministies. Select from the list at right to see the banner and the story for each of our honored saints.
Honoring the Saints during pentecost
As a holiday, Pentecost marks the "birthday of the church", the day the Holy Spirit entered a group of discouraged disciples and turned them into Apostles. We also call the long season that follows that day pentecost. It represents the long period since the first Pentecost, during which the church has been doing God's work.
At Trinity we note the exceptional work and inspiration of sixteen noteworthy Holy Workers by displaying, in the church, custom banners depicting elements of their lives and their service. Edged in green, the color of Pentecost in our church calendar, the banners hang above the pews for the whole of the season.
Their lives embrace nearly the whole of the two millenia life of the church, ranging from contemporaries of Jesus to saints of our times like Martin Luther King, Jr. Please take the time to read their stories and remember their examples whenever you see these banners overhead in church.
Please also enjoy the fine craftmaship and devotion displayed by the Trinity parishioners who designed and created these beautiful banners. The "Acknowledgments" page records their names. The banners were dedicated on All Saints Sunday, November 4, 2001.
